John Nevarez
Acrobatics
John Nevarez was born in Fort Hood, Texas and grew up in Columbia, SC and in the “Harlem” section of NY, NY. He studied math at the Inter-American University of Puerto Rico and was on the National Wrestling Federation of Puerto Rico. He then transferred to the University of Florida in January of 1981 and joined the Men’s Gymnastics Club and was part of the Dance Company at UF during that time. Jazz and ballet are his favorite dance genres. He then went on to teach gymnastics at the University of Florida age group program for a year. Eventually he began teaching gymnastics at Sun Country Sports Center in Gainesville. During this time, he also coached swimming with the University of Florida age group program. He then moved to Ocala in 1989 and taught gymnastics at Rainbow Gymnastics and Balcony Gymnastics. Gymnastics is his favorite sport to teach and coach. He currently teaches at the Hillcrest School in Marion County and also finds time to coach soccer at various levels since 2000.
